Open lecture of Juan Herreros "Between fascinated and skeptical". IaaC

Juan Herreros is a PhD architect, Senior Professor and Head of Teaching Thesis Program at the School of Architecture of Madrid where he was also Construction tutor during the period of 1984-1988. His teaching experience includes numerous lectures, classes and international seminars as well as research workshops (Hannover, Pavía, London, Santiago de Chile, Buenos Aires, Bogotá, Montevideo, Barcelona, Mallorca, Chicago, Riccione...).
Together with Iñaki Abalos he founded Abalos&Herreros (www.abalos-herreros.com) in 1984. The work of A&H was awarded in several occasions, reviewed by specialized magazines and it was displayed in collective exhibitions such as the ones promoted by the MOMA with the mottos “Light Construction” and “Groundswell” (New York, 1995/ 2005), “New Trends of Architecture” and “Dialogue” (Tokio 2002/ 2005) and individual exhibitions (AA London, IIT Chicago...).
Since 2006, operates under the name Herreros Arquitectos, a structure that develops collaborative projects in Spain, Uruguay, Mexico, Panama and the Netherlands and it has among its clients the Contemporary Art Museum Reina Sofía in Madrid, satellite operator Hispasat, Madrid City Council, the Government of Mexico City, Fair Exhibition Insititute in Madrid, IFEMA, the company Bergé, and so on. His activity has been published in the monography AT 18: “2006, 2007, 2008...”
His built projects deserved the COAM Award in four calls (2001, 1999, 1997, 1991), the award of Urbanism, Architecture and Public Works of the City Council of Madrid on three calls (2004, 2000, 1991), he has been selected up to seven times for the Spanish Architecture Biennale (nine editions), he was twice finalist for Mies Van der Rohe Award (2005, 2001), five times finalist in FAD awards (2008 with two works, 2005 with two books, 2000) and winner of the Solutia Design Award 2005. Juan Herreros just received the International Fellowship of the RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects).
